Reducer is a common equipment in mechanical transmission, which reduces the output speed and increases the output torque through the deceleration rotation of the reducer. As reducers are usually composed of multiple gears that mesh with each other, they need to be lubricated during use. The main purpose of lubrication for reducers is to reduce wear and friction, cool and clean moving parts, reduce energy loss, and prevent faults and damage caused by wear and friction. Therefore, the selection of lubricating oil varies for different equipment and usage environments.
Conventional reducers generally use industrial lubricating oils such as mineral oil and golden yellow lubricating oil (referred to as butter). Mineral oil lubricating grease has good fluid properties and is easy to maintain viscosity at high temperatures, with a wide viscosity range. Mineral oil is a natural oil extracted from petroleum and has good wear resistance, suitable for lubrication of some medium and low-speed gear transmissions. However, it should be noted that mineral oil has low oxidation stability, is prone to deterioration and precipitation, and has a short service life. It is more suitable for general working environments. Butter has good viscosity temperature characteristics, extremely high extreme pressure anti-wear resistance, and is suitable for slow speed, low noise, heavy load, full load and other gear transmissions.
For example, for electronic devices, electric motors, etc., synthetic gear oil can be used for high-precision, high-speed, and heavy-duty gear reducers. For engineering machinery, agricultural machinery, etc., mechanical oil can be used for gear reducers that do not require high-precision, low-speed, and light load. For industrial robots, machine tools, etc., anti-wear hydraulic oil can be used for high-precision, high-speed, and heavy-duty gear reducers.
Due to different gear reducers, installation positions, and models, the amount of lubricating oil added varies. Large reducers require much more lubricating oil due to their larger body and gear operation, so it is necessary to add lubricating oil according to the size of the purchased reducer body.
If the precision reducer operates in a heavy load environment, it is necessary to choose gear oil with high extreme pressure and anti-wear performance. If the reducer operates in a high temperature environment, it is necessary to choose gear oil with high temperature resistance. If it is used in a low temperature environment, it is necessary to choose lubricating oil with anti freezing function. If there are no special requirements, then general lubricating oil can be used.
Note: The first oil change must be carried out after approximately 300 hours of operation (gear running in period). When changing the oil, use a suitable cleaning agent to carefully rinse the gearbox. Do not mix synthetic oil and mineral oil. Check every three years at most, replace bearing lubricating grease, replace mineral oil, and replace the oil seal on the output shaft according to different conditions.
